Title: Lightdragon: DisciplinePriest
Post by: Lightning on March 11, 2018, 03:33:30 PM
Character's Name: Lightdragon
BTag: Lightning#1374
Character's Level: 110
Class: Priest
Usual Spec: Discipline
Normal Play Time:
Weekdays 1800-0000 EST, weekends 1200-0000 EST, this includes other games, gym, meal/restroom breaks
Age: 29
Previous Guild: N/a
Reason you left previous guild:
I took a long hiatus because of personal circumstances. I try to separate my personal/work/play life but depending on the degree of the stressor, things can overlap. It was brought to my attention (and confirmed through self-reflection) that my performance was being affected by a drastic personal event. I realized that it was detrimental to the raid team if I was not able to bring my all. It was a difficult decision but I think that I made the right call.

Tell us a bit about yourself:
I have had many nicknames previously. Light is the simplest one or Q if you know me on a more personal level.

I am a gamer, first and foremost. I attest that I have a separate VR room dedicated to my HTC Vive in my house. I bring a professional atmosphere to most activities that I engage within (although I am known to Lifegrip troll on occasion). "Preparation is work, performance is fun." This is the mentality that I bring to my career and to my raids. I bring raid supplies, coffee, and knowledge of the encounter to every raid night.

Are you friends with anyone in Nightstalkers? If so, who and how do you know them?
I have accumulated quite a few friends during my short tenure but Suzunahara has been my biggest connection with NS. I would rather not list names for fear of leaving someone out (and offending them).

Why do you want to become a member of Nightstalkers?
My reason for maintaining my membership and becoming a raid member has not changed since my first application on 7/15/15. I want to be a part of a long-term stable guild that experiences current content together in an efficient manner. It is still an ongoing testament that NS is still thriving after ~12 years.

Any alts we can contact you on? There are a few alts that I currently play on but my Battletag is the best contact point. I can also be found on Steam and FB if needed. I think a few individuals still have my phone number.

Our raid times are Tues, Thurs, and Sun from 7:00 - 11:00 server. Are you able to make ALL of our raid times, every week?

Do you forsee any issues in the near future with attendance? Vacation? Moving? Etc? Vacations, yes but there will be more than sufficient notice placed beforehand.

Please take a moment to outline your rotation/priority. Be thorough and specific: With the new Discipline playstyle, it is admittedly more difficult to perform. It requires a bit of encounter knowledge and a lot of the performance is in the preparation. Simply put there will be times of low incoming damage and times of high burst damage. Right before the times of burst raid damage, it's imperative to spread my Atonement to as many raid members as I can so as to pump out the HPS with minimal lag time. During times of low incoming damage, I mainly reserve mana in anticipation of those burst phases.

I can also make use of my Power Word: Shield to prevent damage from occurring. With the ability that removes the cooldown at my disposal, I can effectively blanket the raid prior to incoming burst damage (while applying Atonement with each shield) and then DPS to heal any damage that would have bypassed the shields.

What's the one misconception about your class that upsets you the most?
I hold firm to the belief that HPS is a good indicator of performance but it doesn't tell the whole story. Compliance with raid mechanics, avoidable damage, and prevention of incoming damage gets overlooked quite a bit. Added utility to enable the raid group to finish the encounter should be the ultimate goal.

Summary of your raid experience (go as far back as you can):
Vanilla - MC, BWL, ZG
MoP - ToT, SoO
Legion - EN, NH

For this current expansion, I cleared H NH and missed out on ToS altogether. With Antorus, I have only done RF, a few N attempts, and Fatboss videos.
